Ali Hasanov argued that some Western countries were responsible for creating tension in the two neighbors’ relations.
“As it is known, several Western circles, including some anti-Azerbaijani and anti-Iranian circles, played an important role in this situation,” he stated.
He said a “confrontation between the two neighboring countries” or a breakup of the relations will serve “the interests” of what he called “some geopolitical, official and unofficial circles.”
He added, “The visit of Iranian special envoy at the ministerial level (to Baku), the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Iran and calls in a letter sent in connection with this invitation, demonstrate the country’s desire to avoid confrontation with Azerbaijan.”
President Aliyev has been invited to participate in the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran in late August.
